How the mulch calculation works
Cubic feet ÷ 27 = cubic yards
Adjusted volume = volume × (1 + extra allowance)
Bag quantities round up to whole bags. Bulk orders round up to the supplier increment you enter.
Real-world project example
How many bags of mulch for a 10 × 20 ft garden bed?
A 10 × 20 ft garden bed is 200 sq ft. At a 3-inch layer, the volume is 50 cubic feet, or about 1.85 cubic yards, before extra allowance. At 2 cubic feet per bag, that is 25 bags before extra allowance. Adding 10% makes it 55 cubic feet, or 28 whole 2-cu-ft bags.
