How the grass seed calculation works
Area ÷ 1,000 × product seed rate = pounds needed
Pounds needed × (1 + extra allowance) = purchase target
Purchase target ÷ bag weight = whole bags to buy

Seed products and lawn uses have different application rates, so enter the rate printed on your product instead of relying on a generic rate.
Planning tips
Use the new-lawn or overseeding rate that applies to your project. Different seed blends can specify very different pounds per 1,000 square feet.
