Real-world project example
How much gravel for a 10 × 20 ft driveway section?
A 10 × 20 ft area filled 4 inches deep contains 66.67 cubic feet, or about 2.47 cubic yards, before extra allowance. With 10% extra, the volume is about 2.72 cubic yards. A supplier selling in half-yard increments may round up to 3 cubic yards.

Confirm gravel size, compaction, installed depth, subbase and drainage requirements. Weight per cubic yard varies significantly, so obtain tonnage conversions from the supplier.
